Does anyone know if I can get a Tranny chip for my 97 A8 4.2? I desperately need toget rid of that 3-4 second delay in the downshift becuase flooring it past the kick down does insane things to my gas mileage.

A few of the advertisers on this site have chips available for the A8. I don't have one yet, but they usually include some reprogramming of the tranny. Adjusted shift points and faster transition between gears. I have had chips/performance programs done for a 94 Impala SS (big difference, well worth it) and for a 99 EB Expedition (Also well worth the money). The only thing holding me back right now on my A8, is the cost. This may sound strange, given the cost of an A8, but most chip programs for my other cars are around $150-$200. The program for the A8 is $500-$800.

Engine and tranny ECU don't talk to one another ( or at least not very well ), resulting in poorly matched revs on occasion. Overall, worth it, but don't expect a lot of refinement.
Garrett in N.A. has a variation of this chip. Don't know if it is better or worse.

Try evolution motorsports in Tempe, AZ.(evoms.com) They sell a chip for $300 on A8's through 1999 and $400 on 2000 MY. I'm thinking of buying one for my 1999.
