Default Tranny flush theory...

Up to now, the only "endorsed" tranny fluid/filter change is dropping the pan, which we all know only gets some of the fluid. Any crap in the TC will stay there. Well, being that there is a tranny fluid line going to the radiator, why not disconnect that line while the engine is running and let it pour into a bucket, at the same time pump fluid in the fill hole from underneath. The key would be to get a pump that pumps as fast as its coming out. This would allow a true tranny flush.

Thoughts?

Could that not introduce air bubbles which might not be a good thing until they clear?

Default We talked about that earlier back...

The issue would be that it would take a decent amt of tranny fluid to make sure we get all of the old out. Also, to make sure we do it right you would have to drop the pan any.

1. Drop pan to get old filter out.
2. Flush
3. Drop pan and drain 6-7 qts of new fluid
4. place in new filter and refil tranny.

That could take over 30 qts!

Default I meant drop the pan, change the filter, fill, then flush.

That would change the filter and all the fluid.

Figure 6-7 quarts to refill, then another 7-8 to flush it completely.

if you change filter, then fill and let it pump out until clear at radiator line, is it likely you'll get all the gunk or do you have to do it twice - replacing filter in the middle of flushing?

Default Why can't ZF design the dang thing so that all the fluid can be

readily drained, including from the torque converter?

On GM gear I've seen shops blow through the transmission with compressed air to empty it out

Default Only if there was serious debris...

If the fluid was just "bad", then I think dropping the pan, changing the filter, refill, and flush would be fine.

This is how I've done it on my wife's Lexus. You can actually see the color of the fluid get brighter as it pours out while flushing.
