Since Wendy forced me under my car to retrieve trans. serial number, I first discovered what appears to be a leaking input shaft seal. Okay well sure. I think if the stealer sustains my technical analysis, i.e. "yeah its leaking," I can get Accel Wty to pay at least sumthin.
Then eager to learn more I zapped over to the ZF site to learn more about this issue if possible.
On page two of their parts catalogue I see my "DPZ" coded transmission was manufactured from 9/96 to 11/96... WTF?? I wonder. I mean come on really, my cars a 2000.
This is the absolute first series of trannies installed on the A8.
I can only surmise that it was replaced under wty. at some point by the PO. Yet never recorded in the Audi mtce record which I obtained a copy of last year.
Also FWIW the back of this catalogue lists the filter kit as 5HP24FKA.
Further mysteries are a listed oil capacity of 11.7 qts. and Esso 71141 engine oil is specified. Hmmm, so does that mean that 3 qts are undrainable?

A mystery indeed... as a fellow '00 4.2q owner it makes me wonder what I have, I need all the sleep I can get!!!!
