I have procrastinated long enough and now my car has 41000 miles on it, its time for a fluid change.
I went to a few indy places and the dealer today.
the dealer wants 450 for a filter/fluid change and the indy's wanted 200-300 for the same thing. One guy i went to says that he will do a Flush, it uses 13-14 quarts of ATF in the process and will cost around 500. The problem lies with people on this board saying that sometimes the crud/gunk is actully holding the trans together, and after the fluid change it gets worse.
I dont have any problems right now and the car is a MY2000 with limited miles so i think that the FLUSH might be the way to go.
Anyone think its a bad idea? most fo the increase in price is related to the extra usage of ATF.

Unless thetranny has had a real hard and long life I dont buy the idea that the grunge is holding anything together. It is either suspended in the fluid (not helping anything) or laying in the bottom of the pan (not hurtng anything so long as it isnt stired up).
If I drained the fluid and it was as bad as a couple photos I have seen, I would want to clean the pan, replace the filter AND flush the fluid.
If it came out looking as good as mine did (looked pretty much like the stuff I put back in) I would clean the pan, replace the filter and add fresh fluid to top it back up.
If a "flush" doesnt include changing the filter and cleaning the pan FIRST I wouldnt do it. If it does, it may be overkill but it shouldnt cause any problems.
