Default Transmission

I seem to be having this problem with the tranmission, it occours rarely but it worries me...

Sometimes when i shift from parking into reverse or drive .. the gear does not engage... its only when i accelerate slowly is there a jerk and the gear engages!

Last thing i need is a transmission overhaul

Default well to check is hard to do....

put if you follow the ATF change procedure on the audipages minus dropping the pan you can do it. first you need to warm up the tranny (approx 15 mins from cold, let it sit overnight) take off the LARGE hex bolt (17mm) while car is running and go through the gears (not reverse, fuild will pour out of the tranny, you can do this if you have enough atf fluid on hand though to refill ) and see if you have any over flow of atf coming out. if so good and it is full, but you should also have a flow going back in (I used a oil can with a hose attached and a "S" shapped end to fit in the tranny fill location.. this set up is gravity feed and worked well, paul and others use a hand pump) (using fresh audi fluid) to keep the fluid level filled. with a steady stream coming out and the car running plug the hex bolt back in and tighten. should be filled. it is a 2 person job and it is dirty..
