I noticed Sven's post from the manual regarding coding for the S8 tranny. Seems like part of the 0-60 time difference for US and ROW cars is once again the shifting programs for the car.
Sven, can you confirm what your car is set to? I will switch mine to the same and report.
Thanks,
Stephen

The S8 only needs to do it in 1st gear for a 0-60 time, but doesn't every S8 at full throttle shift at redline in every gear? [After 3+ years, though, I've still only used full throttle in 1st gear less than five times.]

but I imagine it's 00101. Hopefully the car is back on monday, and my new Vag Com with some luck by the end of the week...? (he said optimistic) :-)
I'll report back.
Someone uttered something about a different final drive though for US cars? I'll see if I can find something...

but it might be easier if you post your gearbox code(s). (it's in Dutch)
I read the old post as well, seems you have 3.730 final drive on the S8? Mine (ECY) is 4.110...

could have a significant impact on 0-60 times. With a shorter final gear the Euro car would get into the higher rpms, and more power and torque faster than the US car. Hence faster 0-60 times.
I am really confused on the final drive issues. I thought we both got the same final drive. Yet another AoA special.
The irony is, we cant use the gearing at either end. What a joke.

I thought the 6-speed manual was the only tranny using the 4.11 final drive.
Also, the TIP uses a 0.804 5th gear while the manual uses a 0.730 6th. If I'm correct about the 4.11 final drive with the 6-speed and 3.73 with the TIP, overall gearing in top gear is identical with both. Notice the step up in the yellow highlight for the TIPs. The "extra" gear with the 6-speed is used to correct the very poor gearing used with the TIP; the extra gear fills the gigantic hole between the TIP's 3rd and 4th.

If ETKA has no mistake, there are no S8 with 3.73 final drive.
ECY tranny (and any other from S8 and A8 3.7) has 34/11 final drive, e.c 3.091.
A8 4.2 has 32/11=2.91
Diesel A8 and 2.8 have 30/11=2.73 final drive.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/79649/final.jpg"></center><p>Hope the above makes sense, it's not available in English for some rather mysterious reason.
HA (Hinten Achse) = Rear Axle, VA = front axle
A8 are all listed with 3.700, 2.900 is not listed here (in Q with 1L gearbox).
I'm still curious which <a href="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/234119-VIN%20%28Medium%29.jpg">gearbox codes</a> were used in the US.
