Default Transmission driving me crazy ! 97 4.2 Q

My transmission downshifts kind of hard and has a good thump at times. I purchased this A8 with a rebuilt tranny (paperwork included). It has had a couple thousand miles since replaced. the replacement was from a 98. I have done the following, with still the same results...
- drained and refilled with correct atf and new filter
- checked all the solenoid screens in the tranny (looked very clean in the tranny, and fluid was like new and yellow colored like it should be)
- double checked the atf level following audipages write up using vagcom to watch the temp. topped off the filler at around 37 celicious
- recoded using vagcom to 00011 and 00012. 00011 seems to help with the harsh downshift, but it is still def there.

MAKES ME CRAZY THAT I CANT GET THIS THING TO FEEL LIKE IT SHOULD!!
any advice would be much appreciated!

I should add - the transmission downshifts kind of hard mainly when coming to a stop. It seems noticeable 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. The thump is during the downshifting but not every time. I also notice a drag or loss in momentum quickly feeling when letting off the accelerator at any speed. (maybe torque converter coming out of lock?)

Also I tried to reset transmission with the process- key to on, slowly press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, slowly let it back up (did not notice anything)

You might need another throttle position sensor. Where are you located?

The mighty tozo ! or so I hear your name comes up in many forums I have been reading. I feel lucky to get my first response from you! so back to subject at hand... I am in Virginia just outside of DC. TPS huh? would the engine run funny? I currently have a slight vibration at low rpms. I am planning on replaceing the spark plugs this weekend. but other than that, the engine runs fine. It responds to the throttle like i think it should, and comes down to idle when I let off the pedal. could the TPS or throttle body just need cleaning? or would this in no way affect what the TPS may be doing wrong? that damn TPS is 200 bucks! which, I would be happy to pay for if only I knew that was the fix for my problem Could I use the vagcom to diagnose my TPS? Thank so much for helping me out!

Well, I have just replaced the TPS and it does not seem to have made a difference. Question though - Should the click sound from the TPS happen way at the very end of letting the throttle rest at the idle stopper? or should it click just before when the throttle slows down by what seems to be a vacuum or spring loaded cushion. At first I thought this slow-down was from a dirty throttle body. I sprayed the heck out of it with throttle body cleaner, so I assume this is how it should act? Thanks for any advice! I wish I lived close to Tozo to give him some business

In case anyone else could use this as a tip to try, I think I may have finally fixed my harsh downshift issues-

I replaced the TCM with a newer used one model number 4D0927156CR. I have only driven it 10 miles to test it, but it is 100% better so far. Before the replacement it would hard shift right away. Now I feel bad for driving it while it was doing that. I could have blown my rebuilt tranny!

i was about to post i thought it seemed like the trans computer. Have seen it a few times. had one jetta that would bang into every gear, and eventually killed the trans. The "New" used trans did the same thing. We quickly got a new TCM and it fixed it.
