Default Sorry, $200 in labor

2.5 hours worth. Plus $73 for the filter kit plus all the transmission fluid. So around $370 total.

Default Are our troubles the result of low pressure?

I've noticed when driving my A8 that adding some engine rpm's seems to diminish the thunk as I approach a stop (it sounds like the trans hifting hard into first gear just before stopping). If my theory is correct, it is lower pressure that is perhaps causing our troubles.

Increasing the pressure would solve the problem (replacing a worn pump or using higher viscosity trans fluid????). I am actually starting to get used to it, but my wife always says "something's wrong" and you know when the wife says that she's right.

ZF's A8 trans overhaul facility is right up the road from me and I am ever-tempted to walk in there and ask for one of their engineers to take a ride with me and tell me what is wrong with ALL OF OUR CARS!

Love the car, hate the trans, but it is definitely a keeper.

Can I assume you live near the ZF facility in Vernon Hills. I'm now in Milwaukee but use to live in Hoffman Estates and am very familiar with the area. I will have to be replacing my tranny SOON and am very interested in what ZF has to say or offer. Please share any information about ZF. It would be nothing for me to run my car back down to Vernon Hills. I have been talking to Accurate Transmission in Mundelein which does their own rebuild, but would also like to know what ZF has to say.

If I have any luck getting with anyone in Vernon Hills, I will run to the nearest WI-FI hotspot to let the audiworld know what I uncover --if anything. I saw a write up on audipages sort of acknowledging some contact with those folks.

Somewhere within ZF there is a group of engineers that bear the shame for allowing our troubles to go on without a reasonable fix.

Wow!!! That would be great. It would be nice to have someone put them on the spot, face to face. I'm sure they know the problem by now. If they announce a fix that means they have to own up to the problem in the first place. As big as this problem is , they are not about to make any admissions.

I spoke to the people at ZF in the group that handles these tranny's and the guy I talked to really hadn't heard of this issue. He thought perhaps it was an electrical issue related to the TPS being incorrectly adjusted or the TCU etc...

Default Update Re: Transmission problems?

Just got car back from Audi. They say I need a new transmission. I reviewed my service records and they had to service the transmission around 65K and replace the filter and gasket and fill the trans because it was leaking. Then 6 months later there was another leak on the prop seal and they had to add more trans fluid. I've already spoke to my attorney and will sue the dealership if they don't make this right. Their incompetence in general is horrible. When I first bought the car I had a hard starting problem when hot. I brought it to the dealer 3 times and they couldn't find or fix the problem. I posted to this forum and found the resolution and printed out the replies and gave it to the dealer. Finally they were able to fix the problem. The fact that my trans was leaking on two different occasions and needed service and more fluid, all while under warranty, is good grounds for arguing the transmission was defective while still in warranty. I would rather spend the money on the attorney than let the dealer rape me on a new trans. I'm waiting for the dealer to hear back from the Audi Rep before I file a lawsuit. Needless to say, my relationship with Jack Daniels Motors in Fairlawn, NJ hinges on this outcome. This is my 3rd audi and I love the cars, but I'm getting the sh&^tty end of the stick here!
