I think those are some really key questions.
Also, did we ever ID exactly what sealer he used? And what was the temp of the trans? Had the car been outside, "cold-soaked"?
Based on the Loctite 518 datasheet that Paul posted the other day, curing time was substantial at low temps. 4 hours at 5 C to get 75% strength, and 24 hours for 100% at any temp.

But if it's a metal to metal fit.....
....most of it is going to squeeze out anyways because it's suppose to be flat.....but these are all good questions.

That's why you use the 518 VERY sparingly. You only need a very thin coating on one surface.......
for it to work properly without too much excess material extruding out from the joint. I think that properly applied and cured, the 518 could do a very good job in this application. My only question is if the 518 is soluable in the Audi ATF (un-cured) or if the fluid will dissolve the cured 518. Perhaps a small test is in order......
