Does anyone know if the instrument cluster display on the TT is compatible or the same as the D2 A8? I'm thinking of finding a place to mount the NAV control from the kit pictured below and using the base NAV system rather than going through the NAV + upgrade process. Does anyone have the base NAV in thier A8? Thanks.

Do you know where to input everything? Do you have wiring diagrams and have done the engineering?
If you don't want the Nav Plus (and I don't think you can find any other Navigation system out there for less now that the RSN-E's have hit the streets), why not just go with a Palm pilot?
You need to understand CAN buses and what the facelift versus pre facelift cars have and what this system works on.
I say skip.

Thanks for the reply.
Is it safe to assume from your answers that you are saying the TT and A8 center instrument cluster panels are not the same or at least compatible? (original question)
I understand the need to research the differences in the wiring design and to explore the details of the CAN bus. I thought it would be prudent to start my search for information on the D2 forum to see if anyone had the base NAV system or if they knew anything about the system used in the TT. Since the TT uses a base system because it is short on space for a display unit, my thiking was that there may be a possibility that Audi re-used the exisitng system rather than re-inventing a new one just for the TT.
To your point of using a Palm, I have an Ipaq 4355 and could go that route for a couple of hundred bucks. Just exploring the options to have an integrated system rather than one sitting on the dash.
So, if anyone has a base NAV in thier A8, I'd love to hear about it and see a picture of the control unit if possible.
Thanks again.

So therefore, you don't have any CAN buses except the one between the ECU and TCU.
Don't know much about the TT's, but I bet all of them had infotainment CAN buses which would pass the data.
Even if you could make it work (which I doubt you could) you'd have to fabricate and run wiring harnesses to the trunk that have a 20 pin connector on them, a real PITA.
