Dave, I was thinking about this the other day.
Really stretching (and being lazy for not doing my own research) - Will the exhaust manifolds from a 1.8T bolt on to the heads of a 3.7/4.2?

my wife has an a3 1.8t, but this is tranverse so i doubt measurements on the exhaust manifold against my v8 would tell you much...

somewhere along the line a company will take the time for some bolt on / add on performance tidbits for the 4.2's because i will most likely have an email sender on a timer to flood there box untill they meet my needs ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Wondering why the S8 produces 360 and the stock @ 300 (or 310). Just looking fo rthe major differences, meaner cam and chip?

and the bits that make that possible; cams mainly, also valve springs, rocker arms, cam adjustment units etc - i think the pistons are also different, but i'd need to check that out...

Seriously though 360 horses is near the engines limit there really isn't much of a way to gain too much more in HP without using forced induction. Look at all the Mercedes before 03 they were about the same horsepower. Also look at Ferrari 3.6 only produces 400 horses, and M5, so in order to get much more than that you got to either add a couple of cylinders or throw on a turbo or supercharger. Either way there isn't much chance for a cheap/effective turbo. The S4 has the 4.2 but its a totally different design which is chain driver and its in the rear. Does the new A8 has the same engine design or is it a carry over design from the current. Anyway my two cents. Get the S8 it's cheaper than A8+turbo that's for sure and you get the whole package.

just a further iteration. the major changes are that the cams are driven by rear chains, not a front belt, and the ancillaries are driven from a rear-driven module. all done to shorten the motor.
otherwise it is the same.
in the s8, 4.2l produces 360hp, 86bhp/litre, which isn't shabby. the engine could produce more power if you went the way of individual throttle bodies etc...
