un questione muy banal regarding replacement of key batteries

I have two key fobs (what the heck is the etymology of the word "fob", anyway?) for my A8. The battery in one has expired. I've read horror stories of people replacing a battery, walking in the direction of the 8, and then discovering that their car was completely disabled, or that the sun roof and windows opened and the alarm went off for 72 hours, or that the car just exploded on site, like Michael Jackson's hair in that Pepsi commercial.
I would like to avoid those entertainments. I looked in the manual. It doesn't tell you how to properly crack open the fob, nor how to get it, freshly battery-ed, into proper spiritual alignment with the automobile.
I will send bullion (or crackers, my choice) to the man or woman who can guide me through this procedure.
By the way, I had to replace a CV joint boot the other day. I've spent damn near $500 maintaining this car in the last 14 months and 17,000 miles! Will the troubles never end?!

No doubt I will turn up on the board one day saying, "It only drives in reverse and plays REO Speedwagon on the stereo. What do I do?!"
Until then, I feel like the fox that stole the chicken: This much car for so little money!

fob
1) A small pocket at the front waistline of a man's trousers or in the front of a vest, used especially to hold a watch.
2) A short chain or ribbon attached to a pocket watch and worn hanging in front of the vest or waist.
3) An ornament or seal attached to such a chain or ribbon.
[Probably akin to Low German Fobke, small pocket.]
If your key fob looks like this

Try the link at the bottom of this post for getting it open.
From AudiWorld Tech section:
You will need BOTH of your "switchblade" keys to reprogram one or both of them.
Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward.
Close and lock the drivers door with the second key.
On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked
With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.
Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions.
Open drivers door, remove key from ignition.
If both of your remotes don't work, do the above for the first key, but on step #3, press the 'UNLOCK' button twice. The lights will flash twice, then continue on with step #4.

click click

I tried the audipages procedure first, and it did not work on my 98 a8. Tried this procedure and it worked the first (and second) time. WOOHOO! Thanks.
