It's something with the throttle cable.....shouldn't be that hard to figure out...I think one guy might of even lubricated it....or we said to lubricate it with a motorcycle cable lubricator.

Read this whole thread on a similar problem

Sometimes when driving long distances at constant throttle in very cold weather, the throttle plate would ice up and get stuck in position. If you took your foot off the gas, the throttle would just stay in it's last position, and you'd continue on in permanent cruise control (which the Saab didn't have).
This seemed like a strange problem to have with a Swedish car. The only cure was to overpower the motor with the brakes, stop, shut off the motor, and let engine heat melt the ice.

position "on" and pressing the pedal all the way down and lifting it slowly. It solved it for me but it could have been just a coincidence. It was really cold that day as well.

One place that recalls come from.
With three reports in this forum alone, something needs fixing. Dependable, all weather self closing throttles are within the ability of most carmakers.

The RPM's went to 3500 and wouldn't go down. I put it in Neutral but then it wouldn't go back into gear. Couldn't open the hood because it was -4 outside. I turned off the car and it started fine, I hope it doesn't happen again. I'll have my mechanic try Paul's idea.

Make that 4 cars with throttle stuck open. My wife drives the 99 A8 to work and it sat out all day last week while at work. Coldest day of the winter so far in Wisconsin. She had it stick twice getting home. Came screaming into the house in a panic.
