Also anyone know how much it is to convert it to meet USA standards? the only reason i have this delima is b/c the S8 is what i want but cannot spend 40K on a US version.

Default look at a minimum of $10k + to get the car to US specs....

...add about $2k for shipping and, by the time you're done, you've got another $15k invested in a 5 year old car (on top of buying the car). Add to that the fact that you'll have problems finding parts that'll fit and there'll always be something that'll stump the mechanic.

I friend of mine had a difficult time finding a mechanic to work on his US spec VW in Germany - he had to order parts from the US.....

Default My thoughts exactly.

By the time you pay to have it shipped and converted, any savings would've been lost. Had this not been the case, there would be a lot more "Euro S8 converted to US specs" for sale here in the states.

Default My 1998 was imported in 2000

It is expensive becasue of the 1998 US federal mandate that all 1998 and newer cars be OBDII compliant.

This means adding slightly different cats (2), 2 after cat O2 sensors, and a new ECM. Also, some of the wiring is different to the O2 sensors, so this needs to be added and run through the relay and fuse block in the passenger footwell. They also changed the dash on my car so it reads in miles.

In addition, side marker lights need to be changed.
