Default Used '98 A8 A Brave New World?

I have owned Audis for many years--5000(3), A6, 90 (for wife), and I found a locally owned A8, 69k miles, perfect exterior, good interior, for under $15k. I drove it yesterday, and it is by far the sweetest ride I have ever had. I may just buy it today and join the A8 club, but what kind of costs, problems, or other issues might I be looking at if I do? Also, how does one open just the headliner to see out of the moon roof? Thanks in advance

Default Start here....

....if it has the hot weather package, you can't see out the glass. Only very few came to the states with glass only.

http://www.audipages.com/usedA8.html</a

Default I have owned a 97 A8 and currently a 2001 S8....they have both been the MOST RELIABLE Audis I have

owned...by far. I have not had ANY real problems to speak of in owning both of these cars. A friend of mine, who works in the parts dept of a local dealer said the only thing he has seen with any regularity, are problems with power seats. I have not had that problem though. IMO, they are great cars and for 15k how can you go wrong.....one of the most under rated cars in the world.

Thanks. When do these need major service, i.e. timing belt, pulleys, transmission fluid etc.? I'm a little worried I might have to do the timing belt soon on this one.

Timing belt/pulleys/water pump at 90K. Tranny fluid & filter every 40K or so.

It is a 4.2 Quattro, summer package only. What do you think?

No cold weather package? If so, I would skip....no heated seats

I do like the heated seats - but if you otherwise love the car - heated seats can be added very easily.

If that's the only thing you don't like - it's an easy fix.

If you are still lukewarm on the car - keep looking. There are several for sale at any given time. I've yet to find the "perfect" used car, usually there are one or two things I need to do after I buy it. That's the fun in it for me I guess.
