Used A8
I'm getting a good deal on a 1997 A8 4.2 Quattro. The car has a lot of miles on the counter -120K.
The big question is if the engine will be able to tale a lot more miles without problems?
Is there any major repair to be done at those levels (Quattro?)
Thanks,
Martin

Engine should last forever
Use synthetic oil, change the timing belt ever 90k miles, get the transmission fluid and filter changed ASAP unless you know it has been done within last 30K miles.

Milage don't seem to be a problem
You can find lots of very high mileage cars for sale, and they seem to be in a fantastic condition. Here are links to some:

My car now has 130.000 miles, no major problems, mint condition. Looks and feels like new, tight as it just left the factory. Build quality seems like very few others.

They usually tell in the ad if anything big is replaced, nothing here
And frankly, it is rare to see anyone with a rebuild or replaced tranny.
My theory is that the tranny problem could be US-specific, and caused by the much softer shift program than we have here. It may put off more metal in the fluid, which clogs the filter and causes the problem. I have never heard of this kind of problem in Europe.
