Default used A8 or S8

Thinking of buying a used A8 or S8 2000 to 2003. Any suggestions? I've had several audis but have never even driven one of these and seldom see one in my remote area of Maryland. Perhaps one of you ar looking to seel yours. S8 may be too expensive. Thanks in advance.

Default If you have the cash, go for the S8... A8s are still phenominal cars...

The S8 has bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, and 40 more ponies.

It depends if you want a sporty ride or a luxury ride. What do you want out of it?

Regardless, I love my A8.

Default If you retrofit an A8 with H&R coilovers and an S8 swaybar,

you get a vehicle that "tighter" handling than a stock S8.

FYI.

Default My experience

Years ago I bought my 94' 100 CSQ and passed on the S4 (the S version of the 100 "A6" back then)...Always regretted it. Still have the car and love it, just always wished it had more oooomph. Didn't make the mistake again this year, got the S8 vs the A8, now I can't look back and kick myself. That's me though, I really enjoy the power and handling, lean toward sport vs luxury. Admittedly the A8 and S8 have components of both, just a slight lean to sport for the S8, which was right for me! Good luck!

Default I have had both....they are both very good cars but the S8 is worth every penny more you pay for it

The suspension and brakes alone will sell you on it. Additionally, the S8 sport seats are the most comfortable seats around.....IMO the best Audi has put in a US bound car...they are very similar to the B6 S4 but a little more comfortable.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I had a 1995 s6 avant and have had sellers remorse ever since I sold it. Your s8 is the exact color combo I'm looking for. Do you want to sell? Did you purchase new? What kind of gas mileage do they get? Thanks

Default My Experience

I bought it used early this year. It was one of the first '03's out the door (Sept 02) so it had high mileage (33K, 45K now, I love to drive it, what can I say), which was fine with me, my 94 100 has 145K and is running like a champ....could afford to squeez into it that way. I only average 16mpg, many on the forum claim to see over 20, I drove this car back from where I purchased it in Flordia to Colorado and only averaged 20mph on the highway. MPG is not a selling point, however my smiles per mile are really high! I would consider selling the car, however I would almost immediately begin my search for another (same year, model and color for sure)! I've read there's only 300 '03's out there, but have seen a few wrecked so maybe 295 to choose from ;-). I much preferred the '03 to the '01-'02 because of the wheels and the interior trim colors...plus a longer Audi certified warranty. I'd recommend the warranty, it costs the dealer about $1400 to add it, I haven't had any problems but if I have one, I'm sure I'd roll through 14 hundo pretty quick, piece of mind for me.

Kind of like asking, "Which Playmate did you want for the evening??"
