Default vibration fixed - wheel bearing

I have had a vibration that's been ******* me for over a year and finally fixed it. It was one of the rear wheel bearings...

No noise and no play with the wheel on the car. I finally went with my gut instinct, pulled off the caliper, rotor and axle and sure enough there was wobble when spinning the hub. So, if you have a persistent vibration and have run out of options remember this post. I had two good Audi techs look for the problem and none of them picked up on it either. It just didn't have the classic wheel bearing failure symptoms.

I used a "Hub Tamer" to remove the old bearing and install the new one. The bearings on the facelift cars are a little different than the pre 2k ones but same concept of pressing the bearing into the hub. The hub on the facelift cars actually bolts back in place.

I took some pics but didn't follow the Bentley (not much help since it's all Audi tools and they remove a lot more than needed) or Hub tamer directions about 1/2 way through.

I think if I did another one, I could write a procedure. It's actually not too bad - probably a 2.5 hour job.

Default could it be the wheel bearing if vibration happens with one set of wheels but not another?

one set vibrates despite multiple balancings...

How many miles does it take for these to wear out?

as I mentioned, it's worth taking it apart down to the hub so you can really check it.

Default Mine has 90k but I hit the wheel into a curb (hard) a couple of years ago.

I think that was more of a factor as opposed to just mileage. I'll let some other people weigh in...
