I know, I know... I'm getting all giddy over nothing... but...
Thanks to everyone for all of your help and for putting up with the endless questions.
Bought a remote (broken key) on eBay for $20 and a new OEM blank for $12. Programmed it myself using AudiPages & various notes from AW posts. Local dealer (University Audi in Seattle) said they'll cut the blank for $5.
But, most of all, I'm happy that ONE "repair" process that I did myself worked EXACTLY as it was supposed to. Even the trunk unlock button works!

Dealer was VERY helpful. Some eBay ads & other posts were confusing me.
As I said above, the dealer said he'll cut the key for just $5. He offered to program it, too, but I used the AudiPages instructions (+ a tip or 2 from dealer) and it worked wonderfully.
Had a bit of a scare in swapping the key blank for the remnants of the cut off key. The little pin went flying... Luckily, it just dropped near my feet and rolled under the edge of the carpet.
Replacing the pin was easy. Used the shaft of a large paperclip to press out & then *gently* used some monster pliers to sloooowwwly squeeze it back in. Oooohhhh... gettin' giddy just thinking about a usable key (after it is cut on Saturday)....
