Yep, when I did this on my 98, I had an internal leak of the oil cooler, so just new pipe/o-rings would not do it, and since it was the ABZ engine, I had to replace the entire cooler/housing..

1200.00 part. Ouch. Plus the cost of the other stuff and labor.

It no longer leaked there afterwards however, but did leak on the back left hand side, at the cyc. head, in one of the places where Audi crushes a ball bearing in to seal off the head.. Bad idea.

The only way to fix it was to drill and tap the hole, put in a pipe plug. It was a very small leak, so I just lived with it. (More of a weep actually, it did not drip even, but you could smell it on some days.)

If I'd have known about the ability to get a block off plate, and remote oil filter/cooler, I'd have gone that route.
