Yesterday, my water pump died. When my girlfriend last started the car, it had a strange rattling sound. After about 5 kilometers, the overheating warning light came on. She drove it slowly for the last kilometer to her parents home and there it boiled off most of its cooling fluids.
ANWB (AA to Americans) came along to check the car. It's transported to a nearby Audi dealer.
Keep you posted on prices the dealer charges for replacement of the water pump. Ive also asked for a quote to replace timing belt in the same procedure (should be fine for another 40K kilometers, but I want to know the price).

If they're going to replace the TB, get them to do all the rollers, and the tensioner, as well.
It shouldn't add more than about an hour's labor to the cost, plus the parts costs.

The Audi dealership has done a complete workover. They changed the waterpump, the timing belt and the ribbed belt. Engine has been tested to see if there was any damage to the valves; everything OK.
Total costs, material and labor: €641 (= $861)
website Audi dealer: http://www.dago-bv.nl/
I get the impression that they have a better service than the Audi dealer in Houten.
