We need a survey K&N Filters and Transmission Problems
It seems to me that a larger percentage of Audi owners are serious car enthusuiasts and we love to mess with our cars. It would be interesting to no how many people have put in K&N air filters and are having hunting problems. And more important is there anyone out there with MY 97-99 A8's that have stock filters and have hunting problems. I got my 99 with 60K and of course the first thing I did was change plugs, fluids, and air filter(K&N). It was factory fresh so no chance that it was over oiled after cleaning. These results could be very enlightening and may further point to the MAF link.

I bought mine with 83k and first thing I did was oil, filters, plugs, and yes a new k&n filter so it was factory oiled. I changed my tranny fluid and filter at 90k. It was perfect and shifted very smooth after the tranny service for 1 day. then back to hunting.. Changed the MAF to A reburb a4 and still hunts but lots less and car performs much better and shifts are crisper. the MAF change did make a nice difference but still not the perfect fix. THE MAF CHANGE IS WELL WORTH IT. The maf change is a must but we are still missing something

My 99 A8 has K&N, Non Audi Trans Fluid and no hunting
I changed the ATF to euro spec synthetic fliud at about 62k. I also did the rest of the 60k as well including the K&N. I'm at 72k and runs flawless.

I have OEM air filter in my 97' A8 109K with a 02' 31K tranny.
I had hunting with both tranny, and believe me I have tried a few things, gasket between the tranny and the valve body, swapping valve bodies, swapping transmission oil pumps, rebuilt TC, extra o-ring on solenoids and so on, but now is day 3 with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and no hunting.

98 A8 124k, K&N in @ 85K Trans fluid/filter @ 95k no hunting, 99 A8 91k OEM filter, no hunting
Just did trans fluid/filter change and installed K&N on 99 A8, still no hunting.
