My front passenger puddle lamps were the only thing not working [after replacing 2 switches on the rear door locks [the passenger switch on my early car has an extra microswitch for the central locking so was unavailable]
I got to thinking and realised that by cutting the wire for the puddle lamps [innermost on switch] and moving it to the wire for the dome light [outerside wire on switch] that comes from the other micro switch within the same switch housing it should behave the same way.
So tore down the door -again- and presto all good.[only side effect is that doors puddle lamps now come on when any door is opened but go off again when all doors shut or time delay as usual]
I can live with that
Remember Audi dont list the switch attached to the door lock as a seperate part and a lock assembly is $450nzd so this is a very cheap mod/repair

The alarm works off of the dome light pin switch, not the puddle lights.
I am on the fence about what to do about my two that are out. I was going to retrofit some good Toyota door switches and rewire the wring going into the door so it goes the new switches. BUT, if i replace the door lock assembly and it lasts another 130K miles, I would also be happy...
It is a hard choice. Modding the switches, or replacing them.
I just don't know.

off the cut end on the plug in case i needed it later.
Simply tapped into the curcuit for the dome lights
They share the same earth [the wire in between]
This would presumably work in reverse to correct a faulty micro switch for the dome lamps although they dont seem to fail which is odd given they use the same type of micro switch
