What is the correct name for the auxiliary cooling fan that turns on with the A/C?

Or better yet does anybody know how to remove it?
I can't seem to find said information on the
Bentley.
My fan is coming loose and rattling and vibrating all over the place. Needless to say my A/C is off.

It was a PITA, there are sideways teeth that grab the main shroud. One of them has a plastic pin holding it to the shroud. You can see from the hole in the picture where the pin goes through.
The bearing is F&%$#d up. The entire shaft wobbles. I don't know if you can tell but there is a trace of black carbon-like substance around the motor emanating from the inside.

The three sideways teeth that hold the assembly to the main shroud pull out towards the driver's side. The assembly needs to be twisted towards the right as your facing the car.

Sorry nobody ever helped you with this!
I just ran into the same thing. Got the fan loose ok, but how the heck do you get it out? there isn't enough room to remove the fan? (I know this is an old post!)

On the A8, the cam-belt cover on that side (on 40V motors, anyway) has to be popped off to allow enough room for electric coolant fan removal. The Bentley manual says to remove the front bumper, then move lock carrier (radiator frame) forward to do this....NOT SO!!
Manuals say the same thing about A4 1.8T...Don't know if there's anything you can remove from the front of the motor (like belt cover, etc) to do the same(?) If not, you may actually have to move the lock carrier forward...Don't know...I don't have an A4 with 1.8T to look at... I know it is NOT necessary on a B5 2000 Passat GLX (2.8 V6), because I've remove the elec fan from mine without a problem.
