what happens when you "discharge" the battery?

You need to fill up the tank to almost full to properly prime the pump.
When I changed my fuel pump, I already had a full tank of gas so never needed to prime.
Replacing the fuel pump has been hit or miss. If your lucky, the assembly fit right in on the first try. Keep a spare tank of gas in the trunk just in case it did not seat correctly.
