Default This is what I should of done for my Nav Plus

Okay, here's a 98 S8 on ebay.de....has the Nav Plus type C unit installed like I have. But it has the old style switches and climate control unit. Note the wood face plate is square....to match the Nav unit....I guess I could always change everything back...but I already sold the fog light switches....that's easily reversable. ;-) don't think I'd actually do it.

Mine looks great, almost done....but this would of been sooooo much easier. Also knowing what I know now....just need the wood faceplate and the plastic double DIN holder behind it that is also part of the top vent. That's it.

Yours works so why change now? Is the face plate filler working out?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see if I could ever get my grubby paws on that faceplate...

Default Actually, I adjusted it again today, looks awesome!

The 00 style climate control is very cool looking, and has all the heat/defroster/seat controls on it....looks great at night too.

My system rocks! I laugh everytime I think about it....I was so crazy to actually think I could do it....but I got everything secured today....broke a terminal off the maintaining relay for the rear fog light switch...have to get a new one and solder it up and then I think I'm ready to put the two console side plate back on, eveything else is complete! All the switches are in and everything is pretty well trued up.

Then I will do the filler, which should be pretty easy, getting some ideas.

The Nav portion (the radio is seperate) died a slow death last week, couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start up or take 15 minutes to start up....ended up it was just the CD, I burned a new one and all is well. Sometimes you have to try different color discs, it likes some more than others.

You need that and the frame behind it....that's the ticket!

Default Do you know the part number for that unit?

I guess it would be a lot easier (and cheaper) than the total upgrade you did, right?

Should be possible to get the correct face plate somewhere.

Default Here's the part numbers you'll need

Just got them from a guy in Denmark (Henrik Lundgaard, anybody know him?) who emailed me on 1/31/03 asking me about the Nav Plus, he's going to do it with his pre face lift car, I think he has a 97 with Concert radio.

I just emailed him, here's the part numbers he gave me:

Schalttafeleinsatz für Doppel-Din (bracket/frame)
4D0 857 007 E ca. 250€

Wurzelholzblende ( faceplate)
4D1 820 325 H ca. 260€

Schlauch für Klima-Innenraumsensor (hose for temp senosr)
4D0 820 547 A ca. 10€

Be aware, that the faceplate need to fit your cars internal colours, this number is for a 1997 A8 ( brown)

If I had these part numbers and could get them, it would of been an extremely easy mod compared to what I did, and would still have the outside temperature display in the dash....which I no longer have because of the 00 climate control unit.

If somebody can get somebody to give us prices on this, post it, I would be interested in learning more.
