I was on I-10 going about 80mph and suddenly the car stutters and locks the wheels. I think it released itself for a couple of sec which enabled me to pull to hard shoulder and it stopped moving with engine running. The car was not moving with any amount of throttle. I towed the car and left at VW service to check it out. What do you think might be the problem and how much its going to cost to get it repaired. I think it wold be the transmission failure. This is 98 Audi A8.

Since the car is not moving anymore, I assume it didn't release itself, but broke the clutch A basket. You need a rebuilt. If you close to Chicago I can do it for you.
