Default Agreed

It's not like the guy has taken 10 of ours and fixed them. You can't figure out if the three graphs are exactly the same place and if the TCU had time to learn or not.

Default They also replaced the VB, with results, didn't they? TC + VB should be enough.

What the article added to our knowledge was some European shops' experiences & confirmation of which parts wear.

It was also pleasing to see the shop get right down to measuring whether the computer was commanding it.

Elsewhere, I don't know why a modified throttle position sensor should be necessary if everything else is working correctly.

Default Modifying the TCC-solenoid DCSV4 line.

Assuming that we would still like to get a little more time out of our torque converter and valvebody with respect to our current wear, how about a modification.

Intercept the TCC-solenoid DCSV4 line to the valvebody and add in a second or two hesitation before the solenoid is allowed to release. Didn't BMW do something similar?

It has been many years since I worked this kind of electronics but it is not as hard as you might imagine.

Default I agree about the TPS, but..

I did notice that the modified TPS added a bit of pep off the light. Less lag time. Mind you, recoding the transmission may also help this.

Default Re: Modifying the TCC-solenoid DCSV4 line.

My interpretation of the "thump" performance would leave me thinking a time delay would not be effective. (The hunt YES!) If the conditions that tell the TCU to lock the TCC continue during the time delay, when the delay is ended, the control will command full lock and "Thump!" Then a release as the sensors tell the control that input and output speeds are in error, and the pattern continues.

If the conditions of in/out speed were to come into acceptable limits during the time delay, The command to modify the TCC modulation (partial lockup to full lock up), then the delay function could enhance comfort by "skipping" a thump!

Have I missed something?

Default What is the issue with fluids"

Is the distinction between transmission fluid formulations and additive packages primarily influenced by Torque Converter clutch facing material?

Carbon Fiber VS Cellulose?

Everything I read about some brands of full synthetic indicates that it can be "one fluid works for all".

Hmmmmm??????

Default In most cases (including ZF) one will work for all.

Some Honda and Chrysler requires special fluid. They need a strong friction modifier other wise they would slip badly. I use Mobil 1 because in it very affordable, but I would use ANY brand in my car without worrying about the tranny.

Default It's interesting to mention Toyota

Reading pages, lists and forums from Toyota/Lexus owners, there are comments that replacement of the approved Toyota fluid -IV with lesser fluids results in SHUDDER. Stick slip. Returning to the Toyota fluid, the symptom goes away.
The other comment was that the Toyota fluid is inexpensive. $5 a quart or the like. I don't know if this fluid is sythetic or only refined petroleum. What ever it is, it must be compatable with the Toyota transmission clutch facings. (Not saying M-1 and others are not also)

Tozo, Do you know if the ZF TCC are faced ( and refaced) with Carbon fiber or paper?

What do you get from your rebuilder?

regards

Cal
