Why couldn't the A8/S8's come with this stateside!!!

audi 6-speeds are nothing too special
as one who had one for 5 years in an rs2...
the new ml-series is different though. outsourced development (with getrag from memory) has resulted in the new box (as evidenced by me in the b6 s4) being very very pleasing to use - and far better than the old units. the new a6 will use this gearbox as well - which is a positive sign..
note also that the ml-series boxes move the front axle 83mm further forward - a considerable gain for weight bias and handling.

Any word on the 'reliability' problems with the new box. Seems
the S4 has had a high failure rate. Hope they fix it, it sure is a world apart from past Audi manuals! I'd love one, if it can withstand considerate (but heavily sporting) use.
