Why is the D2 more suited for owner maintenance versus the D3?

No money in car sales, Service makes the $$$$
Since there is small money in car sales, the service department has to make the profits. The car needs to be sufficiently complicated to ensure people return to the dealer for the quickest service. This is why any dealer service department has a room full of "special tools" The public constantly demands new features like adaptive cruise control, doors that close themselves and electronics packages.

nonono Silly Jeffries - Doug's blk / carmel "D3" as you say is an "OH-3", not "D". D3...
...is '04 and up and is new generation. Doug's is the last of the D2s, one of the ~100 or so uber '03s.
