Default Will this key work?

I understand there is a transponder. I'm guessing that the dealer will charge to program the key, huh? Anyone have a key cut at the locksmith's?

-Or this one b/c of the chrome rings

It may, but check around to see where you can get it cut. I bought one from Carson at Riverside a month or so ago and just got it coded on Monday. I also had one from eBay, but the dealer said they don't cut them anymore, that it's done by VIN no. (which is how I had it done through Carson). Needless to say, my eBay backup is uncut and uncoded, but I do now have two working keys.

I got a switchblade with a blank key off of ebay and the dealer wouldnt cut it for me unless I bought the black from them because he says he seized up to many carbide bits cutting "un-known metals" (of course had to buy the blank with the holder for 41 bucks!!) So I had it cut at a locksmith, it cost me like 23 bucks, just make sure the guys who will cut it know how to do it before hand. I waited for like 2 hours before he finally got mine right and working properly. But my car is a 97 so no transponder, so good luck with that, only the dealer can code it as far as I know.
Good luck

Thanks, will look into that. Had [another] dealer cut a key for previous '98 and it worked fine. With current S8 and its immobilizer, all three would have had to be coded at once. I will take the third one to a locksmith to try that. It may not be coded, but it *could* get me in if I were locked out.
