What's wrong with the Ebay sellers, they should make sure the ones they sent are for the correct years, if a year can have both types, they should bring it up to the customer attention to order the correct parts. How can they say the kit will fit from 1994-2003 A8? Now the car is immobilized until we get the correct part.
Thanks for info guys,
Louis

I've dealt with EBay a lot with (selling and buying) photo equipment and have found a lot of the sellers to be outright liars or just idiots. I've sent countless messages to sellers about incorrectly identified (or compatibility of) equipment, before they screw a potential buyer.

I'll post the pictures of 2 different types of spindles so A8 owners will look at theirs to know which one to order. This is also NEW to me about these small tapered sleeves on the newer 2000+.

The pre-facelift A8 (97'-99') has a cast iron spindle. The facelift (00'-03') has an aluminum spindle with steel sleeves for the smaller tapered ball joints. The S8 uses the same lower control arms as the facelift A8, but the spindles are not interchangeable. The S8 has different brake calliper mounting.

I had the same problem, just in reverse. Returned the thinner end for the fat end. Thanks for the hassle eBay.
I put the old one back on the car as I waited for the new parts. Sucks to do the job twice.
