X-Crossover Fitted!

So, yesterday I went to the far north again, to get my X-pipe mod done at EPS.
The same mechanic who fitted the Quad exhaust went to work straight away. By the time I poured myself a cappuccino the H-crossover was already on the floor.
<img src="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/246389-173_7302s.jpg">
He looked, grabbed some pipe and went to work. Cutting, fitting, and some more of that.
<img src="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/246402-173_7301s.jpg">
This guy must really have an eye for things, as he got it right in one go.
<img src="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/246388-173_7311s.jpg">
Then came the welding.
<img src="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/246385-173_7309s.jpg">
And the result...
<img src="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/246387-173_7313s.jpg">
Adjusting the end pipes... (On a very dirty S8 - sorry for that!)![Embarrassment](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif)
<img src="http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/246404-173_7317s.jpg">
And now the result... Much to my surprise the sound is <i>softer</i>. Didn't expect that really. It's also 'rounder', and more 'balanced', which <i>was</i> expected.
It sounds more 'German' now, if that makes sense. Less low V8 rumble, more an aggressive rev-happy performance sound. Less noticeable on cruising speeds, but as soon as you blip the throttle there's little doubt what this baby can do.
(Yes, I'm already wondering again what-if no-cats etc) :grin:
Performance is <i>definitely</i> improved in the higher revs. Again as expected, but more noticeable as I had dared to hope.
On an initial test, the MAF reading came to 292.5 g/s. Not too shabby methinks.

And the 292.5 g/sec MAF reading definitely sets a new benchmark, along with the quality of your mechanic's work !!
I've heard from others that the x-crossover results in a 2-3 dB quieter exhaust, which is probably the "softer" that you're reporting. Overall, it looks like the x-crossover is an improvement in every way.
Finally ... you're wondering about what-if-no-cats, and I'm wondering about what-if-no-rear-muffler :-)

I thought about the mufflers too... Either the center or the rear boxes. Center would be easier methinks (it's onle one to begin with). However, the fancy RMB's H2Ocooler posted have crossed my mind as well.

That will be tricky to get on the right side though, given the bend around the spare wheel well.

The cats would be very interesting regarding their restrictive nature. We'd have to solve the backpressure issue (remap?) as well as see what the sound would be like. The latter is no big issue, I still have the pipes...
Without the crossover and cats it was too loud for my liking, and possibly as well with the H and no cats. With the X it *might* work.
NB, it's not exactly quiet now, but a bit more modest. This time granny may survive when you start up the car. Untill you blip the throttle that is.

Or: I need a TV card to connect my analogue video camera to my notebook.
Thought I could do that with the S-Video connector, but apparently that's an out only.
Now they tell me I need a €225 'box' to connect the camera to the notebook. (Then I can watch TV on it as well, yay) --> <a href="http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=1008&Langue_ID=7">lin ky</a>
F'n computers... :-/

cats ... x-pipe ... center muffler ... single driver's side 3-1/2" pipe ... single oval tip
A single 3-1/2" pipe has the same cross sectional area as two 2-1/2" pipes, and the whole thing probably weighs 50 lb less than the OE exhaust.

Hoogezand, or Kiel Windeweer to be exact. ;-)
<a href="http://www.uitlaten.com/main.html">EPS</a>
Enter 9605 PX <a href="http://www.routenet.nl/">here</a> where it says 'postcode'. then click 'toon kaart' (zoom out). It's in English too BTW, just click the flag.
I have no digital clip yet, but I'm working on it! Thanks for the offer!
