Default XM Install almost done

After having bought a XM Commander from AudiAfficienado about 4 months ago, I finally got around to doing the install.

I now have XM and an iPod input into the Nav Plus via a line level switching device. I have used the line outputs of the XM instead of the FM modulator part.

As you might recall, I bought this from Jeff Bipes to switch the XM/iPod:

I plugged the iPod into the normally open side and the XM into the normally closed side. I mounted it under the dash just to the right of the steering wheel column. I used velcro on the back and then tie wrapped it secure.

It then feeds the Blitzsafe adaptor, which is on the left side of the Nav Plus unit:

I mounted the XM brain box under the left hand side of the dash, just above the VAG-COM port. I ended up just using velcro to attach it to the controller there. Will be easy to remove when I install the antenna.

The XM and iPod inputs are toggled through an old fog light switch I had laying around in the spare location on the left of the steering wheel....very nice indeed:

And I put the head unit in the ash tray. Took the ash tray out, and you can break the bottom right of it out (it already is scored) and pass the wire through.

Colby Lenoard used a hinge to mount his head unit here....I'd like to do the same, but can't find the correct hinge....Colby, can you hook me up?

EscapA8 painted my antenna car color, will pick it up Saturday and finish the install by mounting it on the trunk and running it up to the brain box.

Paul,

Do you have Fiber Optic (MOST) and electrical or electrical only inputs in the back of the Nav unit? Do you know if the Nav unit you have installed is capable of controlling the OEM XM receiver like the ones in the D3?

Default No, the Nav Plus is just like a Concert or Symphony radio

It has two modules, the Nav and the radio stacked on top of each other and share the same screen.

It has the same connectors that the Symphony and Concert radios use, it's plug and play.

The Nav Plus unit does not have MOST inputs.

Do you know if the Nav Plus unit you have installed will recognize and communicate with the D3 OEM XM receiver? I may have one for you if you can use it.

Default Don't think so

The D3 XM receiver works with fiber optics, the Nav Plus does not have a fiber optics input.

My car is a D2, I know a bunch of people on the D3 forum would like to get their hands on a XM tuner for their D3.....how did you get one? I only know of one guy who has it....but he does not have the software upgrade for the MMI system so he can't use it yet.

Paul,

I have the fiber-optic and the electrical connection XM receiver. Both use the CAN protocol. I'm curious to know if your Nav unit will recognize the XM receiver based on the CAN bus messages the receiver sends. Let me know if you are interested in doing a test.
