No. You have to search for exact coil part numbers and exact spark plugs. Start with spark plugs. They are cheap.

Still not clear what happens when you push it in N while driving.

Just popped in my mind. I don't know what kind of gas you have there. Try a treatment or two with some injector cleaner.

Hmm, if my dealer does not give me the part numbers I have to open up the car and check the number? Or is there like an online database where I can search the part up? There's quite a few questions I still have left, maybe I'll edit them into one post.

do you recommend one done at a workshop or should I use those DIY fuel tank additives?

Thanks for the PM, I read your note, and decided to respond here in your thread.

I would look up your vehicle at rockauto.com and it should pull the right plug and coil for your vehicle.

I ended up replacing just three coils, but I only found out they were bad after using the VAGCOM tool/laptop to scan the engine while it was running, and monitor measureing blocks 15, 16 and 17 on the 4.2 V8 in my 2001 S8.

I don't know if those will work with the V6, or not, or if you will just have blocks 15 and 16.

What you do is hook up the VAGCOM, and then start the car, and have it running in part.

At idle, you should have all zero's for misfires on all coils. As you raise the RPM, you might see individual coils show some misfires. If you get just certain coils that misfire, they are not working as well as they should, and in my case, were causing the engine to run rough under load and at higher RPM.

I replaced #8, #7 and #1 based on this test, and my engine runs great.

The fuel issue was another deal completely. The engine would run fine around town, but under load, and at speeds over 65mph, it would misfire, and then run very rough.

I could not replace the fuel pump on my car in the tank due to a problem removing the pump, so I added an external Walbro 255lph metal pump, and wired it up to the existing wires, in conjunction with the stock pump that's still in the fuel tank. (SO the in-line, external pump just helps the stock pump, and that's working great right now.)

When I added the pump, the problem did not go away until I cleared the codes with the VAGCOM. But it did not run as smooth or was as powerful as it is now with the three new coils.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Rockauto.com is a great source for parts, the coils for my car were about 15.00 each. The OEM ones from the dealer were over 40.00.
