My '04 has the V60 cradle already installed. Will it only work with special 'hard coded' V60 phones from Audi, BMW, or Mercedes? Assuming these phones are hard to find, can I simply install a bluetooth adaptor and use my current Motorola L2 bluetooth enabled phone?

yes get the bluetooth adaptor and you can use your L2 phone. the only issue would be if your cradle is the right one. i think their are 2 cradle's for the 04 one works with the bluetooth and one does not.
forget about the v60.

I have the correct cradle and the bluetooth adaptor and my system does not work! My screen tells me that I need to have my phone activated by Audi. I had Audi service work on activating my system for 3.5 hours without success.

By the way, at least on my system, the Mercedes branded V60 will not work in the Audi (I have one) nor will the Mercedes branded puck work (I have one).

I use the same V60 Bluetooth puck setup in my G500 and it works great. I just can't seem to get it to function in my A8.

If your audi was working with a v60 phone sometime and you have the "B" cradle the bluetooth module will work fine. Put mine in and immediate bluetooth. I have new motorola Raza phone.
