Default 04D3, Left front Bulb (it's the white light one) just went out....

Dealer issue or a DIY?

Is there a written/photo procedure if it's a DIY?

I guess it's the Xeon?

Default Paul, YGM..a couple pics heading your way...thanks in advance.

Two pics a coming. The left front with the blue/white out and the right front with both on.

These are the ones that move up and down to adjust to "load height", I guess. I have the light switch set on "running light" position.

SIDEBARE: The Brights work by making the yellowish light brighter, wish both were the "white" bulb.

Default So it's the xenon low beam that's out? Looks like it

Is the low beam the outboard light?

If so, first step would be to swap the xenon bulb from left to right and vice versa. This was you can confirm it's the bulb that's bad.

Second step is to buy a PAIR of new ones on ebay. The dealer will charge you something like $200/bulb. You can get the correct color on ebay for about $60-80/pair.

I will look up how to change the bulb.

Default Replacing HID (xenon) Bulb

You have to move the power steering resevoir out of the way on the driver's side, and the air box out of the way on the passenger side, but I imagine that's pretty easy. I don't think you have to disconnect the PS resevoir, just move it aside. There are a few pictures, but it's basically: take back cover off, rotate little thing inside and remove bulb.

I wouldn't disconnect the battery for this one.

------------start procedure-----------

Audi > D3 > 2004-2005
Electrical Equipment
94 - High-intensity gas discharge headlamps, servicing - USA and CanadaGas-discharge lamp, replacingCAUTION!
Always disconnect battery ground strap before working on gas-discharge headlight components marked with yellow high-voltage symbols.

Removing
With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable Battery, disconnecting and reconnecting .
Left headlight - Vehicles with 8-cyl. engine:
Remove power steering fluid reservoir .
Left headlight - Vehicles with 12-cyl. engine:
Remove air filter housing .
Right headlight - Vehicles with 8-cyl. engine:
Remove upper section of air filter housing .
Right headlight - Vehicles with 12-cyl. engine:
Remove air filter housing .
All:
Loosen locking bolt - 1 - a few turns.
Release retainer tabs - arrows - and detach gas-discharge lamp housing cover from headlight housing.
Disconnect connector - 1 - at ignition coil for gas-discharge lamp.
Turn ignition coil - 2 - for gas-discharge lamp counter-clockwise - arrow - and detach.
Disengage spring clip - 1 - .
Pull gas-discharge lamp - 2 - out of headlight housing.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
Connect battery. Required actions .

Default Yep

However, I would start by swapping the left bulb with the right bulb. Make sure it's the bulb. If so, then buy them and do it again.

If you don't get a pair, the color won't match.

Default Exactly what I told him, before he sent me this link.

I've got him covered. Dave only lives about 3-4 miles from here.
