Default 07 S8 Impressions

For those who don't know, I am normally on the "other" audi site that looks like the "old" audiworld. But I've been looking for 6 months now and bought a pristine 07 S8 with every option except the ski sack. It has the two tone interior, black/grey.

<img src="http://www.phone2forum.com/interface/scripts/viewimage.php?photoid=81201&code=xW0N7gcKw4s868yfa 97M%2FQ%3D%3D%0A">

So I picked the car up from Audi Dallas on Friday, great dealer, beautiful women waiting for their cars to be serviced. In the end, I think I got a fantastic deal considering the condition of the car and the fact that it had brand new tires. I figure I got a pristine 07 S8 with 39K miles that needed tires replaced for $43.7K, and the tires were worth $1800. I guess none of that matters now because the payments are now my responsibility.

Drove the car just a few miles to the hotel, the suspension is fantastic, couldn't really get on it.

Went out with Dallas2.7T (Jon) and my friend Jim, who flew down there with me to Nick and Sam's steak house, then out on the town until 2 AM, it was great, Jon is a super nice guy! Known him from this site, another site and AW for about 10 years, but this is the first time I met him, he is 6' 6". I'm the goober on the left:

We left Dallas at about 9:30 on Saturday, drove to Texarkana for breakfast at the Waffle House, you've got to love the Waffle House. The car is oh so amazing, the power, the handling, the comfort, the drivers information display, the exhaust note when it upshifts with 1/2 throttle, the beauty of it.

I started playing with the adaptive cruise control, that is the coolest system out there! You can set how far you want to maintain position from the car in front of you, and it's smart, if a car pulls out from the right lane into the left lane and it's in the zone, but accelerating, the cruise control doesn't do anything but maintain speed, but if the distance is closing to you, it slows the car down by using less throttle. If a car pulled out quickly and you were going to hit it, it puts the brakes on.....very cool!!! I just loved it.

In this picture it's on with no car in front of it. It says ACC sensor blocked, probably from a bug, but it still worked and that message cleared shortly thereafter.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/s8/sm_IMG_2131.JPG">

Here there is a car in front of it within range, but its still close to the setting of the cruise.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/s8/sm_IMG_2132.JPG">

Here it has slowed down out of the set cruise range due to slow traffic.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/s8/sm_IMG_2135.JPG">

The car almost drives itself at that point.

We arrived at Memphis, TN, went out for some bar-b-que, and off to Beale Street to listen to some music. The car is just so pimp.

Sunday we left about 9:30 AM. I was driving and there were some very open, long, straight stretches, accelerating from 70 to 130 is basically effortless for this car. It drives at 100 MPH like it's 55 in most other cars, the car tracks perfectly straight, and there were heavy cross winds, but I could barely feel them.

At 80 MPH there is basically no cabin noise.

Did one run to 155, it got to 130 right away and then just climbed consistently and quickly to 155, did not hit the speed limiter as I assume that it was probably more like 145-150 actual. I don't normally do this, and it was completely open road with no cars around in Arkansas. The car is absolutely amazing.

The interior is so nice, you can control EVERYTHING from the steering wheel, most of the time had the MMI screen down, as I like that look better, and the carbon fiber in this car is just so beautiful with the sun shinning on it.

IL rest stop, it was overcast, so the windows look pretty dark. I got the Huper Optik 30% ceramic tint, the place that did it did a flawless job.

My friend Jim:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/s8/sm_IMG_2140.JPG">

The stereo in the car is FANTASTIC, but I would still like to have just a little more bass after having the sub woofer in the D2. When you sit in the passenger seat, you can really hear that tweeter in the dash, especially if you are sitting back in the seat. It's over the top. I would not miss out on this option.

We made it back to the Chicago area where I dropped Jim off at his house, and saw my winter set of wheels I just purchased off craigslist, Jim actually went and got them for me last week, bought them unseen from a guy who just got rid of his 07 S8. Blizzak LM22's on ASA 19", 255/40/19's, they literally have 2 months of wear on them and that's it....plus they have TPMS sensors.

I'll clean them up once I get them home and then I will let you know what I paid for them, but it was a steal!

I am overwhelmed by how nice this car is, even the brakes are just so incredible, just tap them at 130 and you are doing 100 immediately. The D2 and the D3 S8 cannot be compared. The D3 is in super car class IMO.

I am so happy I got the Quart Grey Metallic, it is so beautiful. I wanted a white one, but this is better. And I was so smart to not only jump on this car, but to wait for a car with all the options. So smart.

The interior feels dark with sunglasses on due to the tint, black alcantara headliner (which is beautiful) and the solar sunroof, almost wish I had the moonroof, but I guess I could always mod the car to put it in!!!

I just pulled the trigger on my next mod, it was $25, once I get it and install it, will post, I think you will like it if it works out.

It was worth the wait!!!!

I'm in love~ Great write up! Let us know more about the affair you are having with S8. :P

If you don't mind me asking, is this car CPO and OTD was $43.7K?

Congratulations! Very, very nice car with the best of options. My favorite color combination too. Nice pictures. It is always good to put face to the name. Nick name even better. New signature picture too.

Default No CPO

Out the door was $45.5, but it had a BRAND new set of tires with 0 miles that the dealer put on. That's why I look at it that way. Most of the cars I looked at needed new tires.

Yea good deal. Was this CPO?

Edit: Sorry just saw your post title "No CPO" Thanks for the info! Give us more experience with S8! I'd like to hear more about performance side since we all know A8/S8 interior is world class.

Awesome car. Looks great.

The ladies waiting for their vehicles at Boardwalk Audi in Plano were not hard to look at last time I stopped in.

I love Waffle House. Scattered, smothered and covered please. Closest one is 55 miles away from me and yes, I have driven over just for a meal.

Did you calculate the gas mileage on your Dallas-Chicago run?

Also, since you aren't hanging around AW that much; here's a link { http://tinyurl.com/7lbn2fb } to an interesting thread that happened on a 3500 mile road trip last summer with my son. We drove from Detroit to Memphis to New Orleans to Houston to Galveston to Plano to Oklahoma City to Springfield (Mr. Lincoln's town) to Chicago to Detroit. My fastest speeds on the Interstates took place on I-55 in Mississippi and on I-10 East of Houston. There was a fast spot on a narrow two lane near Dyess, Arkansas as well.

Photo Links from the trip: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/alb...albumid=164293 and https://www.audiworld.com/forums/alb...ctureid=231527 The thread also has some photo links. Enjoy them and enjoy your new toy. How true that saying is; the difference between a man & a boy is the price of his toys. I had no idea I would spend so much on German cars when I was a kid.

I remember that post or BobD having a similar issue with the Blau belts and he linked to it. The S8 is uber-excellent!
