The SS bellows type will last forever, while the SS mesh (like OEM) will wear out;

I had to import the size for the S8 from Australia;

I need to replace my flex pipes but my mechanic says that the pipe is double wall stainless and when replacing the flex pipe with a weld in flex will create a whistle in the exhaust because of the double wall. Has anyone experienced this?

Does anyone know where I can purchase all stainless steel flex pipes for an A8L D2 on-line?
Thanks

Definitely get both done at once. Don't make the mistake I did and go for the cheapest flex pipe. They lasted exactly one year where the original ones lasted 10 years for me. The second time around I made sure they were stainless steel flex pipes, not garbage carbon steel. The stainless steel ones were well worth the extra price. I would suggest going to a good independent European car repair facility that does exhaust work. However I'm sure good muffler shops will give you the same Quality repair.
You do not need original Audi downpipes with the flex pipe built in. A good repair facility cuts out the old flex pipe section and welds on a new flex pipe.

The flex pipes you need are 2.375, which isn't a very common size. This is PROBABLY what you need, but I am not sure as I haven't done mine yet. Just took some rough measurements

Here are some pictures of rotten flex pipes on 07 A8 D3 4.2 I don't think the 6" are long enough at the link above. Maybe this one would be a better choice and you can shorten it if necessary?

Edit: Maybe this one would work better.
