Default 2004 NAV QUESTION--"Enter Start Position"

Has anyone tried to use the "Enter NAV start position" feature to "calculate" a future route? (See page 163 of the 2004 MMI Manual.)

I've tried it once and actually got it to work--it showed a route from some other starting point (not the one where my car was located) to another destination. I think that I also had to use the "Demo" command in order to get it to work.

However, I could not get the simulation to stop in mid-route--I had to wait until it finished the entire route. Also, once it finished the simulation, I had trouble deleting the alternate start point, and the system kept using that as my start point when I tried to use the system in a "regular" way (i.e., to show me the route from where my car is right now to a destination).

So far, my advocate has not come up with a reasonable answer (only to say that this feature is for the purpose of "calibrating" the system, and that the "Demo" mode is only for dealers to leave it running to show prospective customers how the system works).

If it works as the manual says it should, it's like having my own MapQuest in the car--a terrific feature! But at this point, I can not duplicate the steps I used to do that original simulation.

Any comments would be appreciated.
