What is the latest version available for a 2006 Audi A8 MMI. I have the AMI interface already installed and running so I have done the two updates required to get that working.
Is there a newer MMI version available??

Funny you should ask. I have an '06 SWB Oyster Gray/Platinum. I purchased the AMI and installed it. Brought it back to the dealer to re-code. They couldn't figure it out the first time. Brought it back after they researched the issue and for some other minor warranty work. They ended up upgrading my car with the 07/08 ZUG software in order for the AMI to function. It is an awesome upgrade though it was a frustrating couple of months until it all got sorted out. I know several people on here say they have just plug and played the unit but not so for me. And I wasn't buying the hand held to do it myself because I would only end up screwing something else up in the meantime...

I believe there is, but its not neccessary. Especially to pay for. I still have verison 1070 i believe, and I haven't come across any freezing glitches anything. And that is a quite old version
the price just didn't justify the possibilty for breaking something that already works

some murky info that it improves some cell phone bluetooth compatability, seemingly among the PDA type, plus murky info it fixes some spoken Nav stuff. My guess on the later has been it may actually involve the French version that Audi probably has to deal with to be regulatorily correct in Quebec. Audi hasn't come clean on what exactly the change was that I have seen. There was a set of release notes on 4140 at one point, but I haven't seen it linked in quite a while.
They also never documented which rev stripped out MMI control of TPMS, but I know one of them seems to the culprit from my own experience--either 3360 or 4140. Once it became required by NHTSA, the user control went away; I think in 2007.

Can you elaborate on "MMI control of TPMS", i.e. what exactly did it let the user control about TPMS? I'm currently running 3360, and happy to participate in the experiment to see what I'm still able, or not able to do.

I used to be able to turn TPMS on or off directly through the MMI interface. If on, of course I could see the tire pressure and temp. displays. If off, then no TPMS warning light or message if the sensors weren't there or had failed. Of course my system worked and was always on, so I didn't notice the changes at first as MMI got upgraded.
My car is a very early 2006. I believe TPMS got mandated as of U.S. 2007 model year cars across the board (plus the revised standardized tire labeling that basically raised the pressures to max load regardless, instead of best choice for ride and other considerations). In turn, that probably mandated Audi to kill the user ability to turn off easily.
My MMI was upgraded by the dealer to 27xx and then successively by me to 3360 and 4140. Somewhere in there user ability to turn off TPMS via the MMI interface went away. I can still turn it on or off via VAG COM no problem, but of course that takes the cable, software and $ to go with it, and can't be done "on the fly." Turning it off is relevant for using wheels without sensors, like snow tires or simply not wanting to pay the replacement cost when the sensor batteries wear out.

When I first got my 04 it had ver 2720. I now I have ver 3360 and still have the ability to cut on and off TMPS via MMI. I believe it went away with the latest version 4140. Thats why I havent upgraded to it yet. I would like the extra features it have for the AMI but not worth it to me. My TMPS sensors worked maybe for the first 2 months of ownership so I am happy I am able to turn it off to not deal with the headache.
