Cold start rattle that grew longer.

Yea, guy is full of it and will clearly tell you anything. Either bid him in the ***** or walk away as none of what he says has been has actually been done.

Yup, it’s very obvious and on top of that he’s just telling me what I want to hear. I asked him if the air suspension and timing chain were done and he said yes, then I asked him what else has been done and said he doesn’t remember lol. Clearly he’s full of crap

I would look for another car, it doesn't seem likely that all of this work has been done. I have looked at many of these cars and in my experience they come in 2 flavours, well looked after and maintained or driven hard, abused and not a dime spent on maintenance/repairs. When something major crops up the owners are then looking to unload them before spending the money on repairs.

Absolutely! I’m patient and will wait for the right car!

Timing chain for the D3 is completely different from the C5 allroad, early C6 a6 and B6 S4. The D3 had all metal guides from what I have seen of parts kits. I have not seen the back engine view.

here is my 04 allroad I am repairing. Ordered parts today! 1st image you can see the missing guides. they used to be the dark brown plastic and were essentially gone when I opened it up. 2nd image shows the full kit. Upper middle and lower right were the two missing.

Thank you for chiming in cu52, I have been looking for info regarding the d3 timing chains running gear. My hope is that they do in fact have all metal guides. Mine is a 2010 with the FSI 4.2

I wish I had spent more time researching it before I focused on finding a D3 Belt driven. I assumed it was same engine as the B6/B7 S4. Below images of the difference as I have been doing more research since I own one now.
