I have been in close contact with a friend on purchasing what I thought was a 2011 a8l 4.2 only to figure out it is a 2010, what major differences other than the body style are there? especially engine and trans. What about reliability between the two?

It’s a completely different generation of car. D4 vs D3. They share nothing other than a name.

Do you know which ones are typically more reliable? also did the d3's have a chain driven engine?

Not sure what is more reliable. My 2007 D3 has been pretty reliable. In 2007 Audi went to the direct injection, chain driven BVJ motor. My brother has a 2012 D4 A8...the D3 is a bit more analog and less refined., but I like my D3.

thanks a lot for the info, do you know if by chance that you A8, or a 2010 would have Bluetooth music capability for my phone? If not do you know of any solutions?

Definitely no Bluetooth music, only mods. Do a search here, it's been beat to death.

Yeah, what TSHong said...at one point I had a wireless blue tooth device that I hooked onto the ami cord and it worked somewhat but i had cross-talk with the phone bluetooth...I ended up pulling it.

thanks for the input, if you didn't have Bluetooth, how did you use your phone to play music or did you use other sources of media? do you know if there is an aux port I could plug my phone into?

unfortunately, I'm stuck with a specific d3, I wouldn't normally get an a8 this old as I'm familiar with unreliable and expensive repairs but I know the owner of this and that it has been greatly taken care of.
