Default 2010 Audi A8: details revealed

The present Audi A8 has been on sale beginning in 2003 and from that time has only experienced a minor design change to maintain its freshness together with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus LS and lately unveiled BMW 7-series. The minor modifications in style made during the latest revision will have to continue for a few more years as the next-generation `D4? A8 is expected to arrive in the second half of next year, according to some reports, after an introduction in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

4wheelsnews

Default Actually, no more V10s, W12s, V12s, W16, etcetera for VAG (long)

The only engines for VAG (including Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti) will be the following: inline four, inline five, VR6, V6, flat six and V8.

The next S8 (as well as the next RS 6 and RS 7) will only get two engines worldwide: a 580 hp gasoline 4.2TFSI V8 (supercharged, NOT twin turbocharged) and a 530 hp diesel 4.2TDI V8 (twin turbocharged).

The next S6 and S7 will also only get two engines worldwide: a 480 hp gasoline 4.0TFSI or 4.2TFSI V8 (also supercharged and NOT twin turbocharged) and a 430 hp diesel 4.0TDI or 4.2TDI V8 (twin turbocharged). These same two engines along with the 380 hp gasoline 4.2FSI (regularly aspirated) will be the only engines for the next A8 and A8L in North America.

Eventually, throughout VAG (again, including Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti), the following will happen: all gasoline engines will be regularly aspirated and supercharged or supercharged only, depending on the model while all diesel engines will be twin turbocharged only, regardless of model. Single turbochargers will be done away with completely for all engines, regardless of brand, model, whether the engines will be gasoline, diesel or hybrids (hybrids will be available with regularly aspirated and gasoline as well as with diesel engines on all models-including the sportiest and/or most luxurious highest performance models), etcetera. Twin turbochargers will be done away with completely for gasoline engines only, regardless of brand, model, whether the engines will be gasoline, diesel or hybrids (again, hybrids will be available with regularly aspirated and gasoline engines as well as with diesel engines on all models-again, including the sportiest and/or most luxurious highest performance models), etcetera.

All vehicle manufacturers and corporations (including all of the Volkswagen/Audi Group, which, yet again, includes Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti) that are into producing luxurious, comfortable, sporty, supremely safe performance vehicles of all kinds also have to think green, clean, fuel efficient, environmentally friendly, supremely safe, etcetera (which includes having vehicles that are 100 to 1,000 pounds lighter yet ultra rigid and ultra safe) with all aspects of luxury, comfort, sport, performance, safety, fuel efficiency, cleanliness, environmental friendliness and safety being phenomenal, all with all aspects of cost(s) being at least somewhat competitive. Having V10, W12, V12, W16, etcetera engines goes against all of this. Not to mention, having V10, W12, V12, W16, etcetera engines are more to substantially more nose heavy (and more to substantially more heavy in general) and absolutely hurt any or all of the chances of being able to achieve all of this successfully.

Default Several AudiWorld members (about 1/2 of which are employees for Audi).....

have confirmed this.

So have a majority of Automotive sources (such as R&T, MT, AutoBild, to name a few).

So say good bye to all of the following throughout the whole entire Volkswagen/Audi Group-or VAG for short (including Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti): all cylinder counts other than four, five, six and eight, single turbochargers for all engines and twin turbochargers for all gasoline engines.

And, say hello (and, IMO, an incredibly warm welcome) to all of the following throughout the whole entire Volkswagen/Audi Group-or VAG for short (again, including Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti): cylinder counts of four, five, six and eight only, regular aspiration and superchargers only or superchargers only for all gasoline engines and twin turbochargers for all diesel engines only.

Default C&D said a V10....

"We expect the next S8 to become available sometime in late 2010 or early 2011, and it will use the turbocharged V-10 found in the high-performance, Euro-only RS6. It will likely be even more powerful than the RS6, though, which could mean 600 hp--or more. "

Default My hope is a divorce between high trim and low efficiency...

Very, very annoyed that it was rocket science (and tens of thousands of dollars) to get upgraded leather package (dash, etc.) in a short wheel base a8.

There are plenty of luxury and trim options that are currently ONLY offered on the s8 or the w12. This is wrong.

At the same time, the top of the line hybrid LS has all of the highest trim options.

Audi needs a high-trim, low-drag model in the a8 line, like the highest end LS600 (or whatever its model number is).

Default I edited my message yesterday

Apparently, C&D is also one of the minority of sources that is either delusional, stupid or flat out lying.

Default These are all reasons as to why.....

the whole entire Volkswagen/Audi Group is doing away with all V10, W12, V12, W16, etcetera engines.

Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti want high trim, low drag, high efficiency models like the Lexus LS600 h and LS600 h L but with far more soul, far better driving dynamics, far more driving pleasure and reliability that is about the same as the Lexus.

The following is a bit off topic, but why not:

My friends at Consumer Reports (who survey 800,000+ vehicle owners a year on average) have confirmed that all of these brands are now on their way to being about as reliable as the Lexus quite fast, making it official.
