Default 3M headlight polishing kit. Before and afters.... (and link)

OK, so I decided to grasp the nettle and polish the lenses on the A8 as they had the classic discolouration. I tried various stuff on the A6 but this bought this 3M kit:

Here's the pics.

Lamp lens before I started:

Another one:

So you mount a pad on to an electric drill, and then Velcro various grades of sand paper on to it. Start with 500 grit, then 800 grit, then progressively finer.
I have to admit this stage was a little worrying, this was post 800 grit:

Next is the last stage before the rubbing compound, this is after the 3000 grit pad:

Now lastly, two pictures of the lens after the final polishing:

I think it was pretty successful. Now I need to do the other side!!

Default Ask the mods for edit rights

Used to be automatic before some issues came up. If you have a decent board track record, hopefully fine.

It's done here: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...php?p=23769998

You owe me your Kingdom perhaps!

Now that they look like new again, put a clear film on them so they stay that way. 3M, Venture Shield or XPEL. I put it on my 2007 A8 when I purchased it and they looked like new when I sold it after 5 1/2 years. Well worth the investment.

I've applied on the mentioned post. MP4... my kingdom is yours. You officially own one square foot of boggy land in Suffolk.! Enjoy.

Default Excellent idea!!

My body shop guy suggested clear coating them, but I was afraid that would chip off. Clear film, genius! Thanks Chuckster

Nice!

I don't have the yellowing but I do have hundreds on tiny stone chips...

Do you think this 3M process might help reduce the 'fuzzy' appearance of the chips?
