Default A8L W12 Drive

I was invited to the "unveiling" of the new bodied A8 with the W12 here in San Diego. What a machine! I got to drive the black one from Europe with every option in it including the fridge and executive desks in the back seats. The Alacantra (read pleather) headliner was a bit much but the execution was very impressive. I can't say enough about the W12 lump though. Very smooth and terrific power delivery. Since it was raining that day the demo guy took us to an open parking lot and told me to put it hard left and punch it to the floor. amazing how that it stayed level and under control. The 4 link suspension was terrific and did I say anything about the motor?! The Tip on the paddles was better than the buttons on the wheel and the two displays were much better and well laid out. Overall I give it very high marks, but is the 12 lump motor worth the extra juice?! If money was no object sure no doubt. I'd be hard pressed to blow a $130k with the thing optioned out. Still with the new front end and everything else it beats the **** out of all the other cars in its class and I've driven most of them. Anyways, pretty exciting morning and was happy to see that Audi built a kick *** machine with the W12 in it. If you want to blow the wad on the W12 you have to wait until spring time, so I was told. My wife really liked it from the looks value, so i better win the lotto or sell some toys. Happy Holidays - PS: Santa I want a black W12 all options.

Default I'm going this weekend in Griffith Park (L.A.) I'll report back.

Were there no U.S. spec cars there in San Diego?

Default That's the same one JimR and I drove in Atlanta last month..

see pics in a prior post down below.

I don't think there was much tread on those tires after we got done with it..?

It truely is an amazing machine if one had hoards of extra cash.

Default All the W12 being shown are all Euro specs.

They will have A8 and A8L U.S specs as well.

Default A8 Invite

I was invited to the program. I dont have the card anymore, but I would try a dealer and find out where it is going next. I didnt see any US spec cars either, but short of that it was fun to watch the speedo go in kph. The first time I did a full power merge on the freeway, 160 kph kind of freaked me out, and thought something was wrong. Anyways, tons of grins and what a blast! They also had a Lambo there from a local dealer. Wouldnt let me drive it, but they kept saying about the Audi lump in there as well. Gotta go buy my lotto tickets to get the new A8L W12.

What day and time? Where at GP? I'm sure AoA won't mind an S8 crashing the party.

Default I was invited by the new dealership (was Steve Taub) in Santa Monica.

I don't know the rules - I'd call your favorite dealer and ask. I was given a specific appointment time, with a follow-up confirmation email from what looks like AudiUSA corporate, so I'm guessing they're planning fairly tightly.
