Default AC blowing not so cold air

Hi guys, I am a member of the C6 forum. However , my buddy has a 06 A8L and last night I was driving with him and as he explained to me and I saw it. He's AC blows rather cool air from the right hand side (passenger) and almost no air from he's side. He's fans were on when he shut the engine off, I guess the compressor is working,
Any ideas anyone, and I apologize for asking here since I am a c6 member . But thought u guys may know more about it.

Thanks,
PC

What is the center vent temperature set to?

Press the "setup" button on the AC section, and inspect the center vent temperature setting.

Also may want to check the distribution setting, and put it on automatic or in a specific mode to test.

I there cool air from any of the vents or is it simply that the air is not being cooled as much as it should be?
If that is the case then it is most likley to be the normal things - a leak so it no or not enough refrigerant, a faulty sensor, failed compressor, failed clutch....etc....

I'm a little confused. You say the air is blowing cool on the passenger side but there's almost no air from his side. Is it not blowing air from his side as your sentence reads or is it just not blowing cool air like it is on the passenger side?

If it's the latter, I'd suspect a stuck/ broken blend door on the driver's side.

Edd W; Just an FYI, the D3 A8's don't have an A/C clutch. To shut off the compressor and minimize parasitic drag, the valves in the compressor get bypassed/held open.

So the compressor runs all the time but does nothing when in eco mode?
Does it have something else running from the rear then which needs permament drive?

No, clutchless compressors eliminate the weak link which is the mechanical clutch (a moving part that is exposed to the environment). When in economy mode, the internal valves of the compressor are bypassed allowing refrigerant to flow without being compressed. This eliminates most of the parasitic drag of the compressor.
