Adaptive Light Defective warning
Driver side adaptive light is not working, right side is fine. Lights are old, is it too much to replace or fix these lights. Has anyone upgraded the headlights on their 2006? I really want to hold on to my D3 but it is starting to cost me. Only 130K miles on it. Thanks

Depends on the exact problem

I nearly always recommend fixing over buying a new car if the question arises over money. If you’re just tired of your car, that’s a different thing. I still love my 2008 D3 and plan to have it a long time. Good luck!

Some people have changed the module and it has worked. some have changed the connector and it worked, Some have just cleaned out the connector and it has worked. Mine is a bad motor so i need a new headlight just haven't got around to doing it yet.
There are a few posts on the forum if you want to try the other avenues first.

I had a similar issue with my passenger adaptive light. Ungodly expensive OEM part so I went with a remanufactured unit from Rock Auto. The unit works but only sporadically. I think there is a poor connector involved somewhere along the line. I believe the OEM price is around $1100 which is insane for what the unit does.

My right side went out and the diagnosis was a bad power stage module. My independent mechanic charged $221.00. If you have VCDS and tools, you’ll save some money, of course.

Thanks to everyone, the entire unit is defective so it looks like I will have to get a new headlight assembly, it is $1500.00 for an OEM part. My car only has 118,000 miles on it and it is in very good shape, I think the repairs are worth it, I can drive this car for many more years. A new 2018 A8L is going to cost me at least $92K. Would you guys hang on to it and trade it in? Thanks again.

I have a similar error that I haven't gotten around to fixing yet. I'm hoping it is a just a bad connection. I had a rock also hit the other light and crack it. Wish is would have happened to the left side that is getting the error.

Please let me know when you find what's wrong with it. I'll do the same.
