Default AMI install. Are you kidding me???

So, I just received the AMI kit for my '06 A8 and who'da thought they would actually supply it without the power/optical connectors. What's the point of sending the unit if you don't send something to plug it in with? They did however supply the Ipod connector cable. I did specifically ask if ALL of the connectors were with the AMI...I took the CD player out in 5 seconds with the supplied keys, pulled out the little felt lined box next to the CD player with a gentle tug and slid the AMI in next to the cd player. I would have had the whole job done in 10 minutes if I had the power cord.

P.S. I think, with no problems you could switch the location of the CD player and the AMI to make it easier to reach. I will try this when I get the power cable...

Yes I would really go back to whoever you bought that unit from. As awdinut said that cable is expensive. It should have come with the splicer power cable y adapter.

Default Yes, you can swap CD and AMI positions...

and I did, specifically to make it easier to take the iPod in and out from the drivers side.

Yeah, not happy about the additional $190. But I did get the dealer to knock it down to $165. For a friggin' cable. Come on now...

Default You don't need the cable...

You could swap out the CD-Changer strait up. To be honest the CD changer is only useful for MMI updates. You can swap AMI to CD-Changer in a matter of a minute or so. You'll waste more time getting the cd-keys to pull the unit then you will swaping it in and out. You can skip the 170 bucks and swap out for updates only unless you really like having both at the same time and thats worth 170 bucks to you. I just drove 7500 miles in my A8 in a matter of 3 weeks and never once missed it.

True, I could just shelf the CD player but I have a plan for it. I don't want Barny and kids songs on my Ipod so I will leave them in the changer just for the little ones. I'll swallow the $170...

I had the most loop harness and power splitter with my kid but besides that I just plugged the AMI without having to make any other changes/updates to the system. I believe my W12 is an early 2007 MY build so I've got a strong hunch you should be just be able to swap them and have it working immediately.
