Default Another Tire Pressure Question

I have the stock 255/45 18s on my '06 A8L. The factory recommended pressure is 33 all around. When I picked the car up from the dealer, it had 43psi in 4 tires and 33 in the spare. When I called the dealer, the salesman said to reset the reader. Same results. The service manager said it was intentionally higher than the 33. That is the lowest possible pressure and I should use 35 frt and 39 rear.

I have never experienced a service manager recommending totally different settings than the factory.

Is he just covering up for a wrong setting initially or ??????

Default Service Manager, so either covering up or genuinely ignorant are equally likely IMHO.

I never get my tyres pumped up correctly at the dealer, even when I remind them when booking in and when dropping the car off for service. I bought a cheap 12v 'digital' (stops automatically at set pressure) compressor and I just adjust my own after picking it up.

Not something you should have to do, but techs obviously can't read the info panel on the fuel filler flap.

Default I have 22,000 miles on mine. I've always kept my tires at 40 psi.....

and they wear perfectly.

Default Because of the weight distribution, I keep 39 FRONT and 36 REAR.

The tires are wearing well.

Default Re: Another Tire Pressure Question

on a related note, my tire pressure settings are often strangely identical from wheel to wheel: each one will show exactly 33.3, or something similar. I suspect the TMPS is simply rounding or approximating, as it seems somewhat unlikely that every tire will have exactly the same pressure, down to the tenth of a PSI.
If it approximates, then why does it bother with the tenth of a PSI decimal place?

Default Just a simple conversion from it's base metric unit to english

It doesn't appear to be accurate to the tenth of a psi. You'll never see a 33.4 reading.

I'm not near my car to see what the metric units are (someone else?), but I suspect that the TPMS reads in values accurate to the ones digit, then for english, just does a simple conversion rounded to the tenth of a psi.

Default Similar...Keep my 19's at 38psi. A good balance between comfort and safety from NYC potholes...

...At least relatively safe, up till now anyway.

There's two different ratings on that sticker for each tire/wheel size! Which one would you like?
